On 14th November, 1914, the 1st Grenadier Guards of 20 Brigade, 7th Division moved into front line trenches near Rue de Petillon to the south of Armentières where they remained until relieved on 26th November. Harry Dyer died from wounds on 16th November but the only thing recorded in the battalion diary for that day is that Lt Lord Claude Hamilton went to hospital with a sprained ankle! Good to see that they got their priorities right. |
